Our Executive Staff


Karen Webster, MBA - Chief Operations Officer, joined the Eye Care for Animals team in May 2006, and is responsible for overall efficient operations and uniform operating systems for more than thirty ECFA hospital clinics which comprise its family of companies nationwide. She is responsible for overseeing the administration of human resources, training, communications, marketing, client service, and expansion and growth initiatives. Exceeding client expectations for delivering quality service and excellent patient care is of utmost importance to Karen.

Prior to joining ECFA, Karen served as the Chief Operations Officer for one of the nation's largest credit unions, and has more than 20 years of managerial experience in the financial services industry, with special emphasis in human resources. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Western Illinois University, and Masters in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She received her certificate in Employee Relations Law from the Institute for Applied Management and Law.

Karen has spoken on a variety of business management topics at national conferences including the Veterinary Specialists in Private Practice (VSIPP) Conference, CUNA COO Councils Conference, National Community Investment Coalition Conference, and has taught college human resources and business-related courses. She is a past recipient of the Business Woman of the Year, and Agency Service Volunteer of the Year.

M. Susan Perkins, CPA - Chief Financial Officer, became part of the management team at Eye Care for Animals in July, 2002 and serves as the chief financial officer for the family of companies which comprise ECFA nationwide. She is responsible for ensuring that ECFA has the financial wherewithal to maintain an infrastructure capable of providing excellent veterinary ophthalmic services to our patients and at the same time, safeguarding the assets and investments of the owners. Susan has 20 years of experience in the accounting profession including working as an auditor and small business consultant for large local CPA firms in the Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan areas. She also served as the director of finance and operations for a large, multi-state, wholesale tire distribution center.

Susan has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a major in accounting from the University of Arizona and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Scott Sheaffer, RM, ASM - Chief Development Officer, joined the Eye Care for Animals team in June of 2006. In his role as Chief Development Officer, Scott’s responsibilities include inventory, equipment and facilities management. He is responsible for ensuring that all of our nationwide locations are modern and comfortable and that our doctors have at their disposal the most advanced state of the art diagnostic and treatment equipment available.

Scott has over 20 years of expertise in inventory management, healthcare operations, software technology, and business and facilities management. His diverse management experience includes managing a large, multi-site clinical laboratory and co-founding a successful, multi-million dollar inventory management company. Scott graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Microbiology and Chemistry. He is also a registered clinical and public health microbiologist.

Shawn McVey, MA, MSW - Director of Maximum Potential, joined the management team at Eye Care for Animals in July, 2002, and served as its Executive Director through June 2007. Shawn’s new part-time role as Director of Maximum Potential allows him to continue providing value to the company and ECFA team through lecturing and consulting on employee development, client service, and corporate strategic initiatives.

Shawn is an internationally known speaker and consultant specializing in lecturing to the veterinary community. He is also the President/CEO of Innovative Veterinary Management Solutions, a consulting company focused on the business needs of the veterinary specialty practice. Prior to working at Eye Care for Animals, he was the hospital administrator at The Veterinary Referral Center of Colorado. His foray into veterinary medicine was preceded by a career in non-profit organizational development and human health care administration. Shawn has served on the Board of Directors of the American Animal Hospital Association and was the first non-veterinarian to hold such a position in the organization’s 75 year history.

Shawn has two advanced degrees from the University of Houston-a Master of Arts in Behavioral Science and a Master of Social Work in Political Social Work.

John Davis, M.A., CompTIA - Information Technology Manager, joined the Eye Care for Animals management team in October of 2002. Previously he was the practice coordinator at the Veterinary Referral Center of Colorado, a premier veterinary specialty hospital in Englewood. He has over seven years experience in the computer technology industry, including database consulting and systems development for the University of Denver, Marcus and Millichap, and various Colorado small businesses. He also has extensive experience as a computer systems administrator for a mid-sized legal firm in Fort Collins, Colorado and later at Safeco-American State’s six hundred workstation contact center in Golden, Colorado.

John holds a masters degree in Educational Technology from the University of Northern Colorado. He is also CompTIA certified and is currently pursuing his Microsoft Systems Engineering certification.

Renee Blair - Training Manager, joined Eye Care for Animals and began her career seventeen years ago as a kennel technician. Within six months she was promoted to a full time ophthalmology technician. Within ECFA, she has been a team leader, operations manager, and human resources director. Renee was named manager of training in 2003. She brings a wealth of experience to the development of our training and testing program and works closely with the entire administrative team to build company policies.



Cheryl Thompson, PHR - Human Resources Manager, joined Eye Care for Animals in July 2000. Within ECFA, she has worked as a Client Care Representative, Accounts Payable Clerk, Staff Accountant, and Human Resources Generalist. Cheryl holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Bowling Green State University. She is a certified accredited Professional Human Resources Specialist by SHRM.
